Larry was born in 1931 to Mary Martin, a successful broadway singer and
dancer and Ben Hagman a small town attorney. He was primarily raised by
his grandparents, but at the age of 12 his grandmother died, so Larry went
to live with his mother and her new family. Over the next few years, he
alternated between living with his mother and father. Larry attended Bard
College for 1 year, but dropped out to try his hand in acting rather than
study acting. At the age of 19 he went to England as a part of the cast in
South Pacific, of which his mother was starring. He stayed in England for
5 years, for 4 of those years he was in the US Air Force. Whilst in
England he met and married Maj Axelsson, a young Swedish girl. When Larry
had finished his Air Force service he returned to the States with Maj and
2 children, Heidi and Preston. Over the next few years he had a few minor
acting roles until landing the role of Major Anthony Nelson on I Dream of
Jeannie, the show ran for 5 years. In 1978 he got the biggest role of his
life, playing JR Ewing on the night time soap, Dallas. Dallas ran for 13
years. In 1995 Larry underwent a 16 hour life saving liver transplant
after years of drinking hurt his liver.
